HBO has become one of the biggest platforms in the world due to its ability to take risks, and there was no bigger gamble than The Pitt. The studio was no stranger to prestige dramas like The Sopranos and Succession, but one genre that HBO had stayed away from over the years is the medical drama. Back at the start of 2024, HBO decided to dip its toes into the genre with the first season of The Pitt, the unorthodox medical drama starring Noah Wyle. Wyle spent years recurring as Doctor John Carter on ER, and millions of ER fans tuned in to see him star as Dr. Robby in a new medical drama nearly 20 years after ER went off the air. The Pitt has become one of the most-watched shows on TV since its premiere in 2024.
After the first season of The Pitt hit streaming in January 2024, Season 2 returned exactly one year later, and HBO has already confirmed that Season 3 will be released next year around the same time. This level of turnaround is nearly unheard of in the modern streaming era, where many shows often take years-long breaks between seasons. The Pitt Season 3 will look a little different than Season 2, especially after it was confirmed that Supriya Ganesh will not reprise her role as Dr. Samira Mohan. Even Shabana Azeez, who plays Victoria Javadi, will step into a smaller role in Season 3, but there are other stars who will be back. Collider’s Steve Weintraub recently spoke with The Pitt star Jalen Thomas Brooks (Nurse Mateo Diaz) at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival, and when asked if he was going to be back in Season 3, Brooks had this to say:
“I will be there. I will be in Season 3. I don’t know much, just like how everybody on that show never really knows. But what I do know is that the people behind The Pitt, and that whole creative team, they care a lot about what they’re doing. They’re so seasoned, and they have stories to tell — important ones, too. So, you’re going to continue to see stories of importance and see professionals and masters at class.”

So, it feels like that old-school vibe.” Brooks is referring to classic, procedural network shows like NCIS and Blue Bloods that would (and still do) release new seasons every year while also filming new episodes from the next season.
