It is Friday night, and the Ottawa Senators have some injury news to deliver to those who are about to get sensational. Tonight’s news is that the Warren Foegele injury timeline is still unknown, but he is off for at least seven days from before last night’s lineup was announced.

A costly night in Vegas: Senators roll snake-eyes in loss to Knights, lose winger Warren Foegele

He had taken a hard hit to the knee from Jeremy Lauzon of the Vegas Golden Knights and we thought the news was bad. We don’t know exactly how long he will be out, and given the Sens injury list, everyone is hoping it isn’t too long.
Foegele has struggled to find consistent production. He does play well and generates offensive chances, but it hasn’t always shown up on the scoresheet. Going back to the start of last year, in his past 81 regular season games played, he has 14 goals and 21 points. In addition, in his 34 games played in Senator colours, he does only average 11:47 of ice time per game. So he generally doesn’t get an opportunity to develop much rhythm. However, his speed and play on the puck is an essential component of the Sens depth at the forward position.
What Else Is Going On for Ottawa
The other injury news from last night was that the big 6’3″ Andre Burakovsky was injured and didn’t finish the game against the Los Angeles Kings.
Burakovsky is not off to a hot start for the Sens, by any means. He started the season hurt, was a healthy scratch, and now possibly missing time once again. In eight games, he has a 0-0-0 stat-line. Coming over for a sixth-round draft pick from the Chicago Blackhawks, some have questioned why the Sens brought him in. Between his play and now the Foegele injury, where the impact is compounded by the fact William Eklund is out for a while, and have led to Ottawa Senators rumours, as they possibly target a search on a top-six point producer.
The expectation is #Sens winger Hayden Hodgson will have a hearing the NHL’s department of Player Safety today for his hit to the head of Brandt Clarke last night. He’s facing a suspension.

Beyond that, the Kings game last night, really was a rough affair, as it included the Hayden Hodgson hit on Brandt Clarke. The hit earned Hodgson a phone hearing with the NHL’s department of Player Safety. Luckily the news on Clarke is that he did skate today, so all is hoping he is back to 100% in no time.
The Last Word
Ottawa takes on the San Jose Sharks in a Saturday matinee game in The Bay, and the matchup is also a rematch from early in the month from Ottawa. Ottawa is looking to take advantage of San Jose’s shaky defensive work. At the same time, they will be looking for some of the early underachievers to step up like Dylan Cozens and even Fabian Zetterlund. The Sens forwards will be somewhat depleted, but the positive thing to draw on this is that it will give others a much bigger role and opportunity. Head coach Travis Green would like nothing more than for one of them to pick up the slack in the meantime.
