Drake football tops Davidson 30-22 in Des Moines

Drake football improved to 2-0 in the Pioneer Football League with a 30-22 victory over Davidson on Oct. 3 at Drake Stadium.

After starting the season with three losses, the Bulldogs now have a two-game winning streak.

“It feels pretty sweet (to win) in front of the home crowd,” Drake coach Matt Walker said. “We talked all bye week about using our pain and turning it into our power. You’re really seeing that development now. Dayton has a good football team, good quarterback and skill players, and we knew it would be a battle. Whoever was able to find that extra gear at the end was going to win it today, and it happened exactly like that.”

Drake’s Riley Warzynski completed 23 of 39 passes for 347 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.

Mitchell January led the Bulldogs with six catches for 95 yards and a score, one more yard than Aidan Garcia’s 94 on five catches.

Kavaughn Clark rushed 11 times for 76 yards and had a touchdown for Drake.

The Bulldogs play at Valparaiso on Oct. 10.
