Ayesha Curry has opened up about her husband Stephen Curry’s future with the Golden State Warriors in a recent interview.

As of September 1, 2026, Curry is eligible to sign a contract extension with the Warriors that could pay him up to $136.7 million.

The 38-year-old legend has always been considered a one-team man by fans, but GSW’s recent competitive struggles and grim immediate future have created uncertainty until Curry signs on the dotted line.

The Currys were interviewed by Dalton Johnson, with Ayesha being asked about Curry’s playing future. She reaffirmed that Steph can easily continue his career, while hinting at incoming ‘fun surprises.’

“Of course, (Steph) is the hardest-working man in the room. He has no days off. He hasn’t stopped since last season ended. He’s ready. He’s ready to get out there. I think we’re going to be in for some fun surprises over the next couple of years.”

It’s hard not to dwell on what the fun surprises could mean, but the safest interpretation is that she means Steph will continue excelling despite his age.

The fun surprise could just be him being rivalling the kind of longevity we have seen LeBron James have in the NBA.

With Curry being extension-eligible and the Warriors heading into a gap year, there are questions around his future, with some assuming that the surprise could mean an eventual move away from the Warriors.

Curry is entering the final year of his current contract, earning $62.5 million this year and then having the option to enter 2027 free agency if he can’t agree on an extension with the Warriors.

Due to the over-38 rule, the biggest contract Curry can sign is a two-year, $136.7 million deal that pays him $65.7 million in 2027-28 and $70.9 million in 2028-29.

There is real pressure on the Warriors to extend Curry, but the team could also defer his extension until free agency to first use their open cap space to sign players.

The Warriors could have over $150 million in cap space next summer, with Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler all becoming free agents.

The surprise could just be a blockbuster 2027 offseason that utilises all their draft assets and their plentiful cap space to sign stars to surround Curry, who takes a pay cut to stay and compete for a title.
