Bucs offensive tackle reaches 709 snaps without surrendering a sack

Offensive tackles are often judged by their worst plays. One missed assignment, one lost rep, or one breakdown in protection can completely change a game. For Luke Goedeke, those costly moments have become increasingly rare, and his latest accomplishment puts him in impressive company across the NFL. Goedeke currently holds the second-longest active streak among offensive tackles without allowing a sack, having gone 709 consecutive snaps without surrendering a sack. Only Denver Broncos left tackle Garett Bolles sits ahead of him with 1,077 snaps. Goedeke’s streak also places him comfortably ahead of Anthony Belton (473), Roger Rosengarten (404), Lane Johnson (374) and Tyler Guyton (324).

The accomplishment is particularly impressive, given that Goedeke’s career began in Tampa Bay. Originally drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Goedeke struggled during his rookie season at left guard before finding his footing after moving back to his natural position at right tackle. What initially looked like a questionable investment has developed into one of Jason Licht’s more successful offensive line decisions. His development has become especially important given Tampa Bay’s reliance on its offensive tackles to hold up in pass protection. With Tristan Wirfs protecting the left side, Goedeke gives the Buccaneers a pair of tackles capable of handling difficult assignments without consistently requiring additional help from tight ends or running backs.

That flexibility matters for offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, particularly with rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels operating the offense. When tackles can survive isolated matchups against opposing edge rushers, the offense has more freedom to release additional receivers into routes rather than keeping extra blockers near the formation. However, the streak shouldn’t be confused with Goedeke never losing a pass-blocking rep. Pressures and quarterback hits can still occur without resulting in sacks, and sacks themselves are influenced by quarterback movement, time to throw, and protection responsibilities. What makes 709 consecutive snaps significant is the consistency required to avoid allowing the most damaging outcome over such an extended stretch. Goedeke’s emergence also speaks to the importance of patience in player development. The same offensive lineman who struggled to establish himself at guard has become one of Tampa Bay’s most dependable players at tackle.
