Summary: If you asked Deion Branch what he wanted for Christmas last year, I’d say pretty high on that Santa list was the wideout from Rolesville, Gavin Waddell. The three star prospect did nothing but stack up records at the high school level, surpassing 1,000 receiving yards in three consecutive seasons and finishing his career with a new school record (3,100) in the same category. The Cards were going against Miami, Maryland, and I’m sure multiple other “M” schools across the country, but one “M” came out on top…”M-V-P” Deion Branch. The Cards grabbed his commitment early in the cycle and tucked him in the old bread basket with five points of contact until they got the fax on NSD. How pumped was Waddell to get in the mix? He was the first to sign with the Cards on NSD last year and was on campus before the semester started earlier this year.

While a freshman being able to quickly absorb the Brohm playbook is a tall ask, Waddell seemed up to the challenge. Getting the opportunity for a few more reps in the Spring with injuries in the WR room, Waddell slid in an seized the chance to shine. While it doesn’t always translate to summer and fall performance, his Spring camp and Spring game highlights turned heads. His long wiry frame needs some weight, but he is weapon. Bank on it.
