Mathys Tel believes the “big difference” between Tottenham this season compared to last term is their energy.
Spurs continued to build momentum ahead of the 2026-27 Premier League campaign with a 3-0 win over Hoffenheim at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
Richarlison opened the scoring for Roberto De Zerbi’s side after 35 minutes, before Mikey Moore scored a second-half brace to secure victory.
Tel assisted both of Moore’s goals, while the Frenchman also led his side in chances created (three) and dribbles completed (three – level with Moore).
Spurs finished 17th in the league last season, only escaping relegation with a 1-0 victory over Everton on the final day of the campaign.
However, Tel is excited about the new season, following a shift in energy since De Zerbi’s arrival.
“I would say the energy has been the big difference. Last year we missed this energy, and now we can feel it on the pitch,” Tel told SpursPlay.
“The manager is behind us, always with us. We can see on the pitch, off the pitch, we are together.
“I’m very happy, and I’m excited about the new season.”

It was Spurs’ first game since Cristian Romero’s move to Atletico Madrid was officially announced, with Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke starting at centre-back.
Djed Spence has also announced his departure to join Serie A champions Inter, while Ashley Phillips has joined Middlesbrough for a reported £20m.
Boro opened their Championship campaign with a 2-1 win over Lincoln on Saturday, courtesy of a brace from Will Lankshear, who also joined on a permanent move from Spurs this summer.
