Jon Rahm has suggested that he will not be able to clear up where his future lies until the end of the season with speculation persisting that he plans to leave LIV Golf over the winter.

Rahm’s future will potentially provide plenty of clues when it comes to LIV Golf’s chances of success in their new era. Of course, the league recently filed for bankruptcy after a turbulent time off the course, as reported by BBC Sport.

Fans are now waiting to see whether LIV 2.0 will be able to get off the ground in the new year, while there have also been plenty of rumours concerning the players who may decide to quit.

Those on LIV reportedly expect Rahm to leave the league ahead of next season. However, it is set to be some time before it becomes apparent whether the Spaniard will depart or not.

Jon Rahm is still unable to provide clarity over his LIV Golf future

Rahm said ahead of the Irish Open that he was willing to honour his contract with LIV 1.0. For some, that appeared to be a clever way to respond, with the two-time major champion avoiding giving any guarantees about what is next for him.

And when asked about those comments ahead of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, and what it would take for him to leave LIV, Rahm insisted that there is little he can say for a few months.

“Well, there’s a long legal process they have to go through before a lot of things fall into place. I really can’t give you an answer right now,” he said.

“Like I said, I’m very close to expecting our fourth. Hopefully playing good this week, and at the end of the year, whether we play in Abu Dhabi, Dubai or elsewhere, so until this current season is done, I really won’t be able to give you an answer.”

Rahm suggests the DP World Tour has a real opportunity amid LIV uncertainty

The uncertainty surrounding LIV certainly presents the DP World Tour with an opportunity to capitalise.

It is hard to imagine that anyone who leaves LIV this winter will be offered an immediate pathway back to the PGA Tour. With that, the European circuit could end up looking extremely strong for 2027.

Rahm was asked whether the DP World Tour has a real chance to kick on with so many question marks hanging over LIV.

“To be able to answer that, I think we need to know how exactly LIV 2.0 is going to shape up. I think this is another opportunity for the DP World Tour to make some adjustments and gain some strength. That’s a hundred percent,” he said.

“I think the Tour’s in a good spot, and with the changes coming in the future, mainly in ’28 on the PGA Tour, Guy and his team are going to have to change some things, but that always opens doors to strengthen some areas.

“I think this next year and a half, year, is going to be possibly important to hopefully elevate the DP World Tour a little bit more.”

Rahm should be at the peak of his powers. He has won the individual title on LIV three years in a row, while his consistency has been incredible.

However, that has not translated into any notable success in the majors.

He may have struggled just as much had he remained on the PGA Tour. But it is surely fair to say that helping to build LIV 2.0 is unlikely to do anything for his chances of getting back to the top of the game.

So there will be plenty of golf fans hoping to see Rahm walk away if the chance presents itself over the coming months.
