Leeds United Under-21s begin the EFL Trophy campaign on Tuesday evening with a trip to Oakwell to face Sky Bet League One outfit Barnsley.
The Whites head into the encounter in fine form, unbeaten in three beginning with an impressive victory over another senior side, Solihull Moors, in the National League Cup.
Then, on Premier League 2 duties, Scott Gardner’s team came away from Teesside with a point after an enthralling 4-4 draw with Middlesbrough U21s.
Most recently, Leeds faced North East opposition once more with goals from Josh McDonald and Freddie Lane firing United to a 2-0 victory over Newcastle U21s.
The latter’s goal in that encounter made it four in three for the versatile full-back, who has started the new term well after spending time around the first-team on the pre-season tour of the USA.
In the competition last term, the Whites gained valuable experience in clashes against Port Vale, Fleetwood Town and Accrington Stanley.
Barnsley go into the tie having found form hard to come by at the start of their third tier campaign, currently sitting in 18th with eight points taken from seven fixtures.
The Tykes did however earn an impressive point against Leicester City last time out, fighting from a goal down to draw 1-1 despite playing over 60 minutes with 10 men following Luca Connell’s red card.
Previously in the EFL Trophy, Barnsley reached the Round of 32 before falling to defeat to eventual quarter-finalists Port Vale.
Action from Oakwell gets underway at 7pm.
