Hannah covers horror, sci-fi, and games at Collider, where she writes news and features, reviews new releases, and interviews the people who make them. She’s helping build out Collider‘s gaming coverage, with Pokémon as one of her specialties. If she isn’t writing about a monster, she’s probably watching one on a tape from her VHS collection.
Returning home should be the good part of surviving a plane crash, provided nobody asks too many questions about what happened while you were missing. For the girls of Yellowjackets, rescue means facing people who remember them as daughters, classmates, and soccer teammates. Explaining who came back, who didn’t, and why is a considerably more dangerous conversation.
The series’ adult timeline has given viewers plenty of evidence that leaving the wilderness did little to free these women from it. Shauna, Misty, and Taissa have built lives around secrets they remain willing to do terrible things to protect. Seeing their younger selves return home offers a chance to understand how those secrets became the story they agreed to tell everyone else.
Paramount+ has released the official trailer for Yellowjackets Season 4, which premieres Friday, November 20, exclusively with the Premium Plan. The fourth and final season brings the survivors back from the wilderness, setting up a homecoming that puts their past and the lives they have constructed since on a collision course. Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, and Hilary Swank lead the adult ensemble.
- The Wachowskis’ 1999 film won four Academy Awards, including Visual Effects and Film
Editing. - Bullet time was shot with a rig of roughly 120 still cameras firing in sequence around the
actors. - Keanu Reeves trained in martial arts for about four months before a frame was shot,
recovering from neck surgery the whole time. - It opened the same year as Fight Club and eXistenZ, in a run of films about not trusting the
world in front of you.
- Mad Max: Fury Road won six Academy Awards in 2016, more than any other film that year.
- George Miller storyboarded the entire film as roughly 3,500 panels before there was a
script. - The chase was shot almost entirely practical in the Namib Desert, with real vehicles and
real stunt performers. - Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth carried the prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, in 2024.
- Blade Runner 2049 won Roger Deakins his first Oscar for cinematography, on his fourteenth
nomination. - The film also took Best Visual Effects, 35 years after Ridley Scott’s 1982 original.
- Villeneuve shot it on large-format film and kept the fog and rain practical on set wherever
he could. - Three short films by Luke Scott and Shinichiro Watanabe bridge the 30-year gap between the
two movies.
- Denis Villeneuve’s Dune won six Academy Awards in 2022, including Cinematography and
Original Score. - Hans Zimmer turned down Christopher Nolan’s Tenet so he could score Dune instead.
- Dune: Part Two arrived in 2024 and brought in Austin Butler, Florence Pugh and Christopher
Walken. - David Lynch’s 1984 version and Alejandro Jodorowsky’s unmade one are both their
own legends by now.
- The 1977 original won six Academy Awards plus a special achievement award for sound effects.
- John Williams’ score was recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra and became the
best-selling symphonic film soundtrack ever. - Andor took the galaxy somewhere colder and earned Emmy nominations for drama series in both
seasons. - The saga now runs across eleven feature films and a growing shelf of series on Disney+.
What Happens When the ‘Yellowjackets’ Survivors Come Home?
The return to civilization gives the final season a different kind of survival story. In the wilderness, the group developed its own hierarchies, rituals, and justifications for violence. Back home, they face people who have no understanding of that world and every reason to want answers. The girls also have to live alongside the other survivors, who know where any reassuring explanation stops being true. That is an especially compelling prospect for a show built around the distance between what its characters experienced and what they admit. Their families may want the children they lost back, but the survivors cannot simply resume being those people. School, friendships, and familiar bedrooms now come with the knowledge of what they were capable of when those comforts disappeared.
The season’s previously released synopsis adds another complication: the survivors are trying to conceal their actions before rescue arrives, while an old flame returns with an agenda of her own. That makes the homecoming more than a transition between the show’s two timelines. It is an opportunity to watch the decisions that helped keep these women bound together long after they might otherwise have walked away.
Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, and Jenna Burgess return among the younger cast. Guest stars include June Squibb, Elijah Wood, Molly Ringwald, Devon Sawa, Sam Braun, and Dulé Hill. Creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson serve as showrunners.
Yellowjackets Season 4 premieres November 20 on Paramount+ with the Premium Plan. All three previous seasons are available there now.n Stay tuned at Collider for more.
