Chivu reveals Inter are in the market for another wing-back

Cristian Chivu has revealed Inter are in the market for another wide player ahead of their Serie A title defence.

Inter won the Scudetto comfortably in Chivu’s first season at the helm in 2025-26, finishing 11 points clear of Napoli, as well as beating Lazio in the Coppa Italia final.

The Nerazzurri are now hoping to win back-to-back Serie A titles for the first time since 2009-10, when they won the treble under Jose Mourinho and made it five successive seasons as kings of Italy.

They have made four signings so far this summer, bringing in Aleksandar Stankovic, Ivan Provedel and John Stones, as well as making Manuel Akanji’s loan move from Manchester City permanent.

But Chivu feels there is still more business to be done, pointing out their lack of wide options, which has been exacerbated by Denzel Dumfries’ move to Real Madrid.

Inter currently count Federico Dimarco, Luis Henrique and Andy Diouf among their wide options, but struggle for depth beyond that trio.

“If you do the counting, you’ll get the same results as us,” Chivu said, as quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It depends how you look at it. Maybe we’re missing one on the left.

“We have three wide players at the moment, or three and a half because Carlos [Augusto] can play there as well.

“And depending on how we look at Luis Henrique, who can play on the right or left, we’re still missing one.

“There’s still a long way to go in the window, so we need to be patient and choose well.”

Inter continued their pre-season preparations on Saturday by beating Man City 3-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in Hong Kong.

Next on the agenda for the Nerazzurri during their tour of Asia are meetings with domestic rivals AC Milan and Juventus, ahead of their Serie A opener against Monza on August 22.

“We want to train well and grow even further. These games are the best way of training,” Chivu said.

“We have to try and stay healthy and avoid any injuries. That’s the main goal in August with all these long journeys.”
