Chelsea reach transfer decision after Mykhailo Mudryk makes Xabi Alonso debut

Chelsea are willing to entertain loan proposals for winger Mykhailo Mudryk following his return to competitive action, football.london understands.

Mudryk has attracted considerable attention ahead of the upcoming campaign, with no fewer than three Premier League sides having made enquiries. Coventry City represents one of the three English top-flight teams showing strong interest, with manager Frank Lampard having previously worked with Mudryk during their time together at Stamford Bridge.

RC Strasbourg also presents a possibility for Mudryk, with Chelsea permitted to send one additional player on loan to their affiliated club after Genesis Antwi and Filip Jorgensen‘s transfers. FIFA regulations stipulate that a maximum of three players can be loaned to a particular club from another team at any one time. New signing Dastan Satpayev could potentially move to the French side.

Late last month, the FA announced that Mudryk was cleared to rejoin Chelsea after disciplinary proceedings involving the Ukrainian were concluded, going on to make his debut under Xabi Alonso in a friendly loss to Juventus. The 25-year-old winger hasn’t featured in a competitive match since November 2024 following a positive test for meldonium.

However, WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) modified the scientific reporting standards utilized by accredited anti-doping laboratories when analyzing samples for meldonium.

Put simply: if Mudryk were to do what he did in 2024 today, he would not face suspension. Although Mudryk has been sidelined competitively since November 2024, the Chelsea winger did make brief substitute appearances in the final three games of the Blues’ recently completed pre-season tour.

Chelsea manager Alonso revealed last week that his future at the club remained unresolved.

Alonso said: “No decision made. We need to assess, he is a special player but it is a special case so we need to be sensitive.”

Chelsea have new signing Morgan Rogers as their primary left-wing option, while Jamie Gittens and Geovany Quenda, both of whom have caught the eye during preseason, are also capable of operating on the left flank. Pedro Neto, who is available for the right price this summer, offers versatility on either wing.
