Oklahoma State’s season thus far can be described as a bit up and down, as the Cowboys started the campaign with a disappointing 24-10 loss at the hands of Tulsa before bouncing back to take down then-No. 6 Oregon in what was an upset that few could have predicted.
Against the Ducks, Oklahoma State was led by quarterback Drew Mestemaker, who connected on 26 of 43 passes for 317 yards and two touchdowns, though he did throw two interceptions in the outing. Wyatt Young caught five passes for 121 yards and one touchdown in the win, while Caleb Hawkins ran the ball 23 times for 110 yards and one touchdown.
West Virginia, meanwhile, is 3-0 this season, boasting wins over Coastal Carolina (31-24), UT Martin (52-7) and rival Virginia (38-27). In the win over the Cavaliers, the Mountaineers were led by signal-caller Michael Hawkins Jr., who went 10 of 17 through the air for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Hawkins Jr. is a dual-threat quarterback, and he led the team in rushing in that game, too, rushing the ball 18 times for 123 yards and three scores through the ground. DJ Epps caught three passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns for the Mountaineers in the win over the Cavaliers.
