Darren Till outclasses and beats Yoel Romero at BKFC 94

A huge headliner at BKFC 94 sees former UFC title contenders Darren Till and Yoel Romero collide in the ring.

Both men expect a big performance and hope to keep their perfect BKFC record intact. Live from a sold-out AO Arena in Manchester, United Kingdom.

The pair started reserved. Till is light on his feet, knowing the power coming back could ruin his night in front of home fans. Barely any action from the pair as the round ticked past the halfway point. Romero had a brief pulse of aggression, pushing Till back to the ropes and throwing, but failing to land anything significant. An incredibly tough fight to score as the opening round comes to an end.

Not much landing on either side to begin the second round. A nice jab as the halfway point approaches from Till, but again, nothing to write home about for either man. Till has abandoned his counterpunching style and is now the aggressor. With 25 seconds remaining, Till starts to find his rhythm. A beautifully timed uppercut was followed by a sharp straight. Romero is almost frozen, not giving much back to the Brit. Till takes the second.

Yoel Romero goes heavy to start the round, throwing huge bombs and forcing Till to the ropes. Till remained calm, composed, and escaped the early onslaught. A battle for the center of the ring commences, but neither man takes initiative. Till lands a nice left. As he did to begin the round, Romero put his foot on the gas and landed a nice left that stunned Till and opened up a cut; it could have been a knockdown, but there was no time to capitalize. Romero likely wins the third.

Darren Till needs something big in the fourth to regain control of the fight. The cut under Till’s right eye has worsened. While nothing of note has landed for either man this round, the cut is not a good visual to the judges for the Liverpool native.

The fifth and final round got underway with a missed overhand from Yoel Romero. Till did some good work in the clinch, with short hooks and uppercuts. Till looked frustrated as the one-minute mark ticked by. A lot of clinching this round, and Romero has done a great job of avoiding anything big. Nobody put a stamp on the final round, but it will likely go to Romero for being the more forward-pressing of the two.

Each judge scored the bout 49-46 in favor of Darren Till. Somewhat surprising given Yoel Romero’s aggression and Till’s reluctance to exchange at times.
