It’s been a busy offseason for the steelers/356" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Pittsburgh Steelers and a big part of it has been writing some big checks. The Steelers brought back quarterback Aaron Rodgers and gave him a raise up to $22 million, gave edge Nick Herbig a massive $100 million contract, signed multiple big-money free agents and re-signed tight end Darnell Washington to more than $10 million per season.
Here are three things all these big paydays could mean for the Steelers.
The Steelers are likely doing all this because they know that for the next three seasons, they are rolling with Will Howard and/or Drew Allar at quarterback and going cheap at the position. This lets them spend elsewhere and hope they can defer that big quarterback contract for a few seasons.
I don’t care what any insiders are saying; if the Steelers get a call and it’s an offer they can’t resist, T.J. Watt or Alex Highsmith is getting traded. The Steelers are walking a fine line with their salary if any injuries happen, so we are leaving the option to make a trade very much open.
With so much money going out this offseason, the Steelers might not be in any rush to extend any players. It could also mean guys who have massive cap hits now will be asked to restructure their deals to push that money down the road and make space under the salary cap.
