It’s not that Jahmyr Gibbs doesn’t care about his future with the Detroit Lions.
But at least as far as contract negotiations go, he doesn’t seem to care very much.
Gibbs spoke with reporters this week at OTAs while Detroit fans await news that Gibbs has signed a long, potentially record-setting deal to stay with the Lions for a while.
Such news hasn’t arrived yet, though, and so Gibbs was asked about it.
“I’m just letting my agent and (GM) Brad (Holmes) and all them do do all that right now,” Gibbs told reporters. “I’m just worried about the team and ball.”

Those in the room were apparently not satisfied with the answer, because they asked Gibbs a follow-up question.
“I don’t know. I don’t really pay attention to all that stuff,” Gibbs said. “I let my agent and Brad do all that — or whoever does it up there, I don’t know. But I just let him do that and I just be out Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs gives blunt feelings.”
Clearly, Gibbs really does seem simply focused on the football.
For a player of his level, there probably is less overall concern here, anyway. He knows the Lions want to give him a bunch of money. He really can let his agent handle things and know that nothing too crazy is going to happen.
It’s not like Gibbs is on the fringes of the roster and has anything career-defining to be worried about. He’ll be getting a huge contract no matter what.
He also wants to be in Detroit, it seems.
“I love the people here,” Gibbs said. “I love the sports teams here. It’s just been fun overall — I never thought I’d be here in Detroit growing up, but I really like it here.”
The superstar RB from Georgia is at home in Detroit. That’s really all that matters for the Lions.
