USC, UCLA Women’s Golfers Dominate Conference Awards

USC and UCLA women’s golf dominated in the Big Ten conference awards this season.

For the Trojans, senior Catherine Park was named the Big Ten Player of the Year, and head coach Justin Silverstein won the Big Ten Coach of the Year award. This is the first time Park has won a conference player of the year award. Meanwhile, Silverstein collected his third coach of the year award across two conferences.

Park has played her entire collegiate career at USC. She finished this season as the Trojans’ career leader with a 70.40 career stroke average, 30 top-10 finishes, 40 rounds in the 60s, according to USC Athletics. Her five career wins ties for third all-time in USC women’s golf history.

Silverstein led USC through a successful season that ended with the program’s first Big Ten title and an NCAA runner-up finish. USC was ranked in the top five nationally all season and won seven consecutive tournaments from February to March.

Under Silverstein, five Trojans earned All-American honors.

Those five Trojans were First-Team selections Park and Jasmine Koo and Second-Team selections Bailey Shoemaker and Kylie Chong.

UCLA freshman Kacey Ly took home the Big Ten Freshman of the Year Award.

She is the eight UCLA women’s golfer to win a conference player of the year award but the first to do it in the Big Ten. Patty Tavatanakit was the last Bruin to win a conference player of the year award when she won it in the Pac-12 during the 2017-18 season.

Ly was also the only freshman named an All-Big Ten First Team honoree and was a three-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week selection this season.

Ly led the Bruins with a 72.5 scoring average, four top-five finishes, a 90.6% counting-round percentage (31 of 35) and four eagles, according to UCLA Athletics.
