Zamfara NDC demands accountability over worsening insecurity

The Zamfara State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has called for greater accountability from the state government over the worsening security situation, saying the continued loss of lives reflects a failure to adequately protect residents.

The party made the call in a statement issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Kasim AlMustapha, following the reported death of Bello Umar Abdullahi, who allegedly died from gunshot injuries sustained during an attack by suspected bandits.

According to the statement, the incident underscores the persistent insecurity confronting communities across Zamfara, where residents continue to face killings, kidnappings and displacement.

The Chairman of the NDC in Zamfara State, Surajo Garba Mai Katako, described the incident as heartbreaking and extended condolences to the family of the deceased, praying for the repose of his soul.

The party, however, said the recurring attacks highlighted what it described as the government’s inability to fulfil its primary responsibility of protecting lives and property.

It stated that despite repeated assurances to tackle banditry and violent crime, many communities in the state continue to live under constant threat, while innocent residents remain vulnerable to attacks.

The NDC urged the Zamfara State Government to move beyond promises and implement practical and sustainable measures to address the security crisis.

The party also called on the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify military operations, strengthen intelligence gathering, improve inter-agency collaboration and ensure those responsible for the attacks are arrested and prosecuted.

It maintained that, as an opposition party, it would continue to demand accountability from elected leaders, insisting that public officials must be held responsible for fulfilling their commitments, particularly on the protection of lives and property.

The party reaffirmed its solidarity with victims of insecurity and their families, while expressing condolences to the family of the late Bello Umar Abdullahi.
