Yankees, Rays Wild Card Series rosters: Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton verdicts in

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Giancarlo Stanton made the cut again and Aaron Judge again was deemed not ready.

The Yankees debated roster decisions Friday night for their Division Series showdown with the Rays, then came to final decisions.

Judge has been on the injured list since Sept. 19 with a Grade 2 right calf strain. That’s typically an injury that takes about six to eight weeks to recover, but the three-time MVP has been trying to return sooner and making good progress in his rehab.

Judge has been hitting, running and throwing, but he hasn’t yet been cleared to run the bases.

They made one change from their Wild Card Series roster, activating left-hander Ryan Weathers from the injured list and dropping reserve infielder/outfielder Amed Rosario.

The Yankees are going with 11 pitchers and 15 position players for the best of five after keep 10 arms and 16 bats for the first round, which ended in two-game sweep of the Red Sox.

Stanton, who hasn’t played in a game since late April due to a strain in both calves, again only will be a pinch-hit option against the Rays. He wasn’t used in two blowout wins over the Red Sox, 9-0 and 9-2 victories at Yankee Stadium.

Game 1 is Saturday night at Tropicana Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Right-hander Gerrit Cole for start for the Yankees, right-hander Drew Rasmussen for the Rays.
