Packers move Warren Brinson to IR, Edgerrin Cooper removed from injury report

GREEN BAY – The groin injury second-year Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Warren Brinson suffered in practice this week has landed him on injured reserve.

The Packers announced Oct. 3 that they had placed Brinson on the reserve list, sidelining him for a minimum of four weeks.

Brinson had returned to practice after missing the first three games with a calf injury. Considered a potential starter coming out of training camp, Brinson will go at least the first seven games of the season without playing a snap.

Coach Matt LaFleur indicated in his press conference Oct. 2 that Brinson’s injury was significant and he would miss considerable time.

The Packers will also be without defensive tackle Anthony Campbell, who has been declared out for the Tampa Bay game Oct. 4 with an ankle injury.

The Packers also announced that linebacker Edgerrin Cooper had cleared concussion protocol and was being removed from the status report, meaning he is expected to play against the Buccaneers. Cooper was also on the injury report for a shoulder injury.

The Packers did not announce a corresponding move on the 53-man roster to fill Brinson’s spot.

After the Buccaneers game, edge Micah Parsons, nose tackle Jordon Riley, edge Collin Oliver, receiver Savion Williams and tight end Luke Musgrave will be eligible to return to the 53-man roster from the reserve lists. Parsons, Riley and Musgrave are on the physically unable to perform list and Oliver and Williams are on injured reserve.

However, none of the five has been designated to return, allowing them to practice while remaining off the 53-man roster. The Packers have been free to open that window on the three PUP players since Week 2.

Once the Packers designate any of the five to return, a 21-day practice window will open, allowing them to remain off the 53-man roster until they are activated.
