What Was Reggie Barlow Thinking?

We’ve all seen it. A college football game is coming to its inevitable end. And as is so often the case, there’s going to be a winner, there’s going to be a loser, and everyone watching knows who the latter will be. The cameras pan to the coach of the soon to be losing team. He stares into the middle distance, contemplating decisions made and actions taken, questioning his strategy, his tactics, and his very worth as a coach of football and a leader of young men.

“Lou Holtz’s chartreuse Maserati!” you exclaim. “What must that poor sap be thinking right now?”

As usual, we have a few ideas.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is Tennessee State head coach Reggie Barlow gamely facing the media following his team’s 63-3 loss to Georgia.

I ask you: what was Reggie Barlow thinking?

a) “Look, they were going to beat the ever-loving stew out of somebody in week one. Might as well be us.”

b) “Wait, they really gained 611 yards of offense? I saw that on the stat sheet and just assumed I was hallucinating from the heat.”

c) “Hey, we decided to start the season against a truly elite national program. But only because Clemson was already spoken for.”

d) “I feel bad that I shrieked and jumped under the desk when the guy from the Bogart Biweekly called my name. But he looked a little like Raylen Wilson and I didn’t want to take any chances.”
