Liverpool are reportedly looking to add more depth to the central defensive unit.

According to Fabrizio Romano, they are looking to sign a central defender before the window closes. Ibrahima Konaté has left the club on a free transfer, and Joe Gomez has struggled with persistent injury problems.

Liverpool have Virgil van Dijk, Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni at their disposal. Leoni is returning from a serious injury, and Liverpool cannot afford to overuse him in the coming months. They had a disappointing season last year and barely finished in the Champions League positions. A club of their stature should be doing a lot better and pushing for major trophies.
