“What I’m hearing is…”: Romano reveals Liverpool transfer plan to improve key position

Liverpool are reportedly looking to add more depth to the central defensive unit.

According to Fabrizio Romano, they are looking to sign a central defender before the window closes. Ibrahima Konaté has left the club on a free transfer, and Joe Gomez has struggled with persistent injury problems.

Liverpool have Virgil van Dijk, Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni at their disposal. Leoni is returning from a serious injury, and Liverpool cannot afford to overuse him in the coming months. It is necessary for them to add more depth to the position. It remains to be seen whether they can bring in a versatile defender.

Romano said on YouTube: “Keep an eye on centre-backs for Liverpool. Because I’m what I’m hearing is that Liverpool could consider a move for a CB in the summer transfer window in these final weeks, because they could add one more player in that position. It’s not something that we have to exclude. So more than right-back in this moment in this specific moment.”

Liverpool need more depth in the right-back department as well. It would be ideal for them to invest in a utility man who can operate centrally as well as on the flanks.

They need more quality and experience in the team if they want to compete with Arsenal and Manchester City next season. They had a disappointing season last year and barely finished in the Champions League positions. A club of their stature should be doing a lot better and pushing for major trophies. They looked vulnerable at the back last year, and it is an area that needs improving.

It will be interesting to see who they end up signing.
