The New England Patriots’ game in Miami last Sunday was partially played in miserable weather. This week’s contest against the Green Bay Packers will see a return to better playing conditions.

The Patriots will be hosting the Packers at Gillette Stadium for a battle of 5-3 teams, with kickoff scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET.

At that point in time, WBZ Boston projects temperatures of 56°F, which will drop to 52°F at the half and into the high 40s toward the end of the game — noticeably cooler than last week, but most importantly with minimal if any precipitation in the forecast.

“The good news is the risk of rain looks to be decreasing, clouds breaking apart,” said meteorologist Sarah Wrobleski on Friday morning. “But temperatures will fall from the mid-50s into the upper 40s, and we’ll have a breezy wind, too.”

That wind is projected to bring gusts of up to 24 mph, which could create challenging patterns inside the Patriots’ home arena. As a reminder, the two teams have had some kicking issues so far this season: New England’s Andy Borregales has made 30 of his 34 combined field goal and extra points (88.2%), with Green Bay’s Trey Smack at only 27-for-35 (77.2%) — giving him the lowest success rate in the league.

Similar projections are also shared by other outlets such as NFL Weather or the National Weather Service.

If those turn out to be accurate, Sunday would become the Patriots’ coldest contest of the season so far. It would also be the first to see temperatures drop into the 40s over the course of the game.
