Washington football continues to tumble in US LBM Coaches Poll

After another disappointing, close win over an inferior opponent, Jedd Fisch’s Washington Huskies took another tumble in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

The Huskies came into the season at No. 17 and dropped two spots following a 24-10 win over Washington State in the Apple Cup in Week One. Following a 16-14 victory over Utah State in Week Two that came down to the wire, the Huskies fell five more spots to No. 24, receiving 268 points in the poll.

With plenty of movement around the Big Ten, the Huskies slotted in as the No. 8 team in the conference behind No. 4 Indiana, No. 6 Ohio State, No. 11 USC, No. 15 Penn State, No. 18 Oregon, No. 19 Michigan, and No. 20 Iowa after the Buckeyes and Ducks both suffered their first loss of the season.

With all the chaos around college football to open the year, the Huskies have had two great opportunities to assert themselves and move up the rankings, but much like what happened against the Aggies, Fisch’s team let those chances slip through its fingers.

Running back Trey Cooley dropped a 30-plus-yard touchdown in the first quarter on fourth down, before wide receiver Dezmen Roebuck suffered some uncharacteristic struggles in the second half. In the third quarter, he turned his head upfield on what should have been a 5-yard touchdown and let the ball slip away, before, on UW’s final offensive drive, the Freshman All-American dropped another ball that would’ve put the game away.
