Gary Cohen could be anything he wants to be, but Tomi Lahren doesn’t want to hear about it on a New York Mets broadcast.
During the Mets 15-14 win over the Miami Marlins Wednesday night, SNY reached for its “questions for the booth” segment, with field reporter Steve Gelbs asking, ‘What’s something you’re convinced you could be world-class at with just a little training?”

And while Ron Darling opted for water skiing, believing he is capable of becoming one of the better 66-year-old water skiers in the world, Cohen went an entirely different route.
“I think I could follow in the footsteps of my old friend George Stephanopoulos, and I could be a political operative,” Cohen said as Darling and Gelbs agreed with the choice.
“You could lose Keith as a friend,” Darling interjected with a chuckle to poke fun at Keith Hernandez’s well-documented conservative leanings. .
“Well, I’m not saying in what manner I would be operating,” Cohen lightly pushed back. “But I feel as though I have a good handle on the issues and know how to call the right people to put things in place.”
Darling noted Cohen’s foundation of political aptitude was built at a young age, with his mom being keen on the issues.
“Yeah,” Cohen admitted. “I was out stomping in the 1972 election when I was 14.” Which sort of helps to better explain this old hair picture of the now follically-challenged play-by-play voice.

Gary CohenEven though Gary Cohen may not have wanted to go down the path of what manner he would be operating as a political operative, conservative Fox News commentator Tomi Lahren knows enough to know she wouldn’t like it.

“Nobody wants to hear Gary Cohen on the Mets SNY broadcast talking about how he would be a good Democrat political operative,” Lahren posted on social media. “Barf.”
Cohen’s “old friend George Stephanopoulos” of course was a Democratic political operative, working as a campaign manager for Bill Clinton years before he left the White House to join ABC News as a political analyst. Stephanopoulos and Cohen were friends and radio broadcast partners while attending Columbia University together in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Based on what we know of Gary Cohen, if he went down the political operative career path, it would have been as a Democrat. But he never said as much on the broadcast, so there really was no reason for Lahren to upchuck her dinner. Lahren has seemingly been able to keep her dinner down whenever Keith Hernandez makes one of his subtle conservative-leaning quips on the broadcast. But just the thought of Cohen being interested in politics was too much for her to handle Wednesday night.
Lahren’s husband, J.P. Arencibia, is the Mets Major League catching coach, which should make for an interesting conversation the next time Cohen finds himself in the clubhouse before a game.
