Bayern head to Nairobi to face Ajax in January friendly

German champions Bayern Munich will travel to Kenya during the short Bundesliga mid-season break to face Ajax Amsterdam in Nairobi on January 5.

The friendly will open the new Raila Odinga International Stadium at Talanta Sports City. The game will act as a preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations, which takes place in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in June and July 2027.

Ajax boast Germany goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen and former Germany player Julian Brandt.

Rouven Kasper, Bayern board member for marketing and sales, said in a statement: “Bayern has millions of fantastic fans in Africa with whom we feel a close connection – it’s a continent with a huge passion for football.

“We will be making a further contribution to raising the profile of the Bundesliga and are very much looking forward to this special event.”
