Netflix’s new 4-part thriller series A Couple of Lies premieres this Friday, October 30, and it’s one new Netflix series you don’t want to miss this weekend. The story follows two couples who switch houses for a dream getaway, only for the vacation to turn into a nightmare full of surveillance and manipulation. With its short episode count and intriguing premise, it should be a global hit on Netflix this weekend, which is why we recommend keeping an eye out for its upcoming global release in just a few days.
Netflix’s A Couple Of Lies Drops This Friday – What It’s About
A Couple of Lies, or Bytet, is one of the best one-night binges on Netflix this weekend, and its premise alone promises to deliver. The new Netflix series stars Emma Appleton, Fares Fares, Frida Gustavsson, and Jakob Oftebro, and is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by renowned crime author Stefan Ahnhem. A Couple of Lies follows Helene, played by Frida Gustavsson, and Carl, played by Fares Fares, a married couple living in Stockholm who swap houses for a few weeks with Scarlett, played by Emma Appleton, and Adam, played by Jakob Oftebro, a couple they’ve never met in Sicily.
Soon after both couples get accustomed to each other’s houses, they begin to discover that the ideal vacation they had hoped for is undermined by ulterior motives and hidden betrayals that eventually come to light. It doesn’t take long for the couples to realize that their luxurious vacations are compromised, and their initial hopes of utilizing the idyllic getaways to repair their struggling marriages are entirely thwarted. Suspicion initially rises when Carl and Helene arrive at the house in Italy and quickly agree that it is nothing like the pictures that were used in the advertisement. From there, they begin to suspect that Scarlett and Adam targeted their Stockholm home for reasons completely separate from a relaxing holiday.

One of the most appealing aspects of A Couple of Lies is that it is essentially the length of a long movie, meaning that Netflix subscribers can easily start and finish it in one sitting. Similar to Netflix’s masterful Adolescence series, which is also just four episodes, A Couple of Lies is best enjoyed all at once, and the story is constructed to be intriguing enough to keep viewers interested until the fourth episode. While some of Netflix’s best new series of 2026, such as East of Eden, run seven or more episodes, A Couple of Lies is crafted to be lean, fast-paced, and highly bingeable, which is a key reason why it’s poised to draw substantial viewership on Netflix’s global charts this weekend.
While reviews for A Couple of Lies have yet to be published at the time of writing, the new 4-part Netflix series has high expectations based on its popular source material and the overall success of its author. Stefan Ahnhem’s novels have sold more than 3 million copies worldwide, particularly his Fabian Risk book series, which currently consists of six separate installments. Interestingly, none of those celebrated novels have gotten a modern streaming adaptation. That said, Ahnhem is already a proven TV screenwriter who worked on the acclaimed crime series Wallander, which earned a 90% Rotten Tomatoes audience score and stars Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hiddleston.
Ultimately, A Couple of Lies quietly has a great deal of momentum behind it heading into its global premiere this Friday, which is why we recommend giving it a quick binge this weekend, especially for fans of Nordic thrillers and mind-bending psychological dramas.
