Tim Burton Unveils New The Nightmare Before Christmas Release Officially Arriving Next Week

Tim Burton is returning to The Nightmare Before Christmas for an exciting new release this year.

This year marks the 33rd anniversary of The Nightmare Before Christmas, the stop-motion animated classic that Disney premiered in October 1993. While based on characters and a poem by director Tim Burton, the filmmaker served as an executive producer on the 1993 movie rather than its director, with that role being assumed by Coraline‘s Henry Selick. Still, Burton’s style and heart are forever woven into the fabric of The Nightmare Before Christmas, with the story and characters being creations he continues to return to decades later.

As announced today on Instagram, Tim Burton is now collaborating with fashion company Loewe to bring a new touch to his classic 1993 animated film The Nightmare Before Christmas this month. Launching on November 12, Loewe will be releasing the new Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas collection, a special curated collection with bags, accessories, ready-to-wear, scented candles, and leather goods.

The collection features new recreations from Tim Burton of The Nightmare Before Christmas‘ beloved characters, including Jack Skellington, Jack’s dog Zero, and the Harlequin Demon. Some of the items in the new release include Jack Skellington on the inside of a handbag, Halloween Town’s spooky snakes popping out of a woven leather bag, and Zero painted on the side of a handbag.

To celebrate the partnership and launch, the collection was also paired with a documentary short, which features Tim Burton sketching and painting the residents of Halloween Town over 33 years after his characters were originally brought to life. The documentary also includes the filmmaker discussing the origins of the movie, which began with sketches of characters and a poem before Disney opted to adapt it into a stop-motion feature film.

Burton also discusses how Disney originally wanted Jack Skellington to have eyes, but the executive producer was more intrigued by the simplicity and purity of the main character being able to emit emotions without eyes. Discussing Zero’s role in The Nightmare Before Christmas, Tim Burton noted his movies often include dogs because he’s always had a dog in his own life, saying, “They’re like a heart come to life… There’s nothing more beautiful than a boy and his dog.”
