Serie A side Como play a historic Champions League tie against Manchester United today. While there have been fears that the tie could be postponed, it is set to go ahead, with the Red Devils set to face a huge challenge as well.
Cesc Fabregas’ side play a fluid brand of football, where they constantly exchange positions rapidly, which allows them to build from the back smoothly and transition from midfield to attack swiftly.
More than the system, it is specific players that will be key for Como. Apart from the obvious names, here are three players who could be huge today.
Jacobo Ramon
At just 21, Jacobo Ramon has become one of the best centre-backs in Serie A. He impresses with his ability on the ball, having fulfilled the promise that was seen during his early days at Real Madrid.
The talent is a perfect fit for the setup, which brings the most out of him, also allowing him to sometimes step into midfield.
While not a Spain international yet, Ramon’s time could indeed soon come.
Max Perrone
The ex-Manchester City player is one of the most silent impact players in the Como side. He uses his left foot to dictate the tempo of games at will, breaking it up when needed too.
He plays a big role in allowing Como to build up efficiently, dropping into the backline when needed and also sometimes drifting wide for the same purpose.
He generally doesn’t get enough plaudits either but a big game against Manchester United could the right time for him to get the credit he deserves.
Martin Baturina
A much more prominent name due to his heroics in the last few months, Martin Baturina has been more important for Como than Nico Paz since 2026 started. His importance grew after a slow start and he is constantly among the goals.
The Croatian floats around in attack, picking up the ball in the right spaces as he roams from one flank to the other and has a hammer of a right foot. When Baturina gets the ball, it feels like everything slows down before the takes an action. He has deceptive 1v1 ability too, which can be a big threat for Manchester United.
