Harry Kane could close in on Cristiano Ronaldo's Champions League record against Arsenal

Harry Kane thrives on the biggest stages. The brighter the spotlight, the sharper his performances. With less than a week to go before this year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony in London, he’s pushing hard to bolster his credentials for the prestigious award.

The case in his favor is already compelling, yet for someone as driven and professional as Kane, there is always room to raise the bar further.

Should he find the net on Wednesday against Arsenal — the club he represented as an eight-year-old — he will be on the verge of equaling a landmark record previously held by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese icon remains the only player to have scored in 11 consecutive competitive matches, and Kane currently sits at nine. Other elite players have come agonizingly close to matching the achievement, which is now firmly within Kane’s sights, but none have managed to pull it off.

His numbers — 15 goals in 22 appearances against Arsenal — are nothing short of extraordinary. England’s talismanic captain and inspirational leader fired in 73 goals for club and country throughout the 2025-26 campaign.

Only Lionel Messi (82 in 2011-12) has achieved more in a single campaign this century. Last week, Kane actually eclipsed a separate Messi benchmark for most UEFA Champions League goals netted after turning 30, following a double against Viking, as per football.london.

Messi recorded 35 Champions League goals in his 30s, Kane now has 36 and there’s a sense that many more are on the horizon. He now also ranks eighth on the all-time Champions League scoring chart with 57 goals, level with Bayern legend Thomas Müller.

Additionally, he’s the highest-scoring English player in the tournament, the first Englishman to find the net in seven straight Champions League matches, and he also holds the record for the most goals tallied by an English player in a single Champions League season (14 in 2025-26).

Kane’s track record speaks for itself and requires no form of PR campaign. So much so that he was not called upon for Bayern Munich’s pre-match media obligations, even though he’s typically a fixture to address the press before any clash against English opponents.

“He always has the right mindset, always goes forward, always leads,” remarked teammate Serge Gnabry yesterday. “I spoke to him the other day, he just has a good mindset where he never gets thrown out of his lane if I can say it like that.

“He just helps the team in such ways with his performances, he brings the team together by being unselfish and those are great attributes and he’s a top, top player to have on your team.”

Throughout Bayern – at the Allianz Arena, across the training facilities and within the locker room – there’s clearly a prevailing sentiment that the German powerhouse is fortunate to possess world soccer’s most lethal striker.

“He’s had an incredible year, so for me of course he’s done enough,” said Gnabry. “His all-round game is at such a high level,” Vincent Kompany’s assistant coach Aaron Danks later added. “He can be our best defender in training if he wants to, he can be our best playmaker and he can come and score goals.”
