Scottie Scheffler makes a comment about Wyndham Clark after his second round at the US Open

Scottie Scheffler battled incredibly hard during the first two rounds of the US Open and he is currently sitting seven strokes back of the leader, Wyndham Clark.

Scheffler grinded during the toughest conditions on day one and posted a round of 72.

On day two, the 29-year-old world number one posted a really impressive 68 at Shinnecock Hills, and climbed inside the top 11.

Scottie Scheffler looked much more like his old self on day two at Shinnecock, and he is in with a real shout of winning the US Open.

However, he will definitely need to start making more putts if he is to have any chance of overtaking Wyndham Clark.

However, he has managed to hang around and Clark will undoubtedly see the world number one looming large in his rearview mirror with 36 holes left to play.

The 29-year-old from Dallas, Texas, spoke to reporters after his second round at Shinnecock Hills on Friday.

When asked about the challenge presented at Shinnecock, Scheffler made a comment about Wyndham Clark.

“I mean, the biggest challenge so far I think for most of the tournament was just the wind,“ Scheffler said.

“I mean, the wind was up yesterday. Wind was up again today. This golf course, with the amount of pitch you have on the greens, playing in the wind is extremely difficult, and judging speed on putts when the wind is blowing that hard can be challenging as well.

“I think the wind definitely was the biggest challenge the first couple of days. Looks like we’re going to have some more wind tomorrow.

“Wyndham was able to handle it really well obviously the first couple of days, but like I said, the tournament is halfway done.

“I did a good job of kind of hanging in there the last two days, and hopefully start making a bit of a move over the next couple of days.“

Scheffler responded when asked by one reporter whether his game-plan will change over the weekend on Long Island.

“I think the tournament is halfway done. Yesterday was a day in which you could kind of shoot yourself out of the tournament.

“The conditions were really, really tough yesterday. Did a good job of hanging in there. I had a tough front nine yesterday, but battled back nicely on the back nine.

“Then had another solid day today to kind of back that up. You know, hopefully do more of the same over the next couple of days.“

If Scottie Scheffler’s putter heats up this weekend at the US Open, he will have every chance of catching and, indeed, overtaking Wyndham Clark at Shinnecock Hills.
