BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Zakiya Johnson scored a career-high 33 points and had 13 rebounds to help No. 9 LSU to a record 129-35 rout of Southeastern Louisiana in the opener Monday night.
The Tigers scored the first 18 points of the game en route to the 94-point win, which was the biggest in school history. It eclipsed the 89-point victory over McNeese State in 2023 and a 115-26 win over the Lady Lions last season.
Johnson scored 18 of her career-best point total in the second half and made 14-of-19 shots in 29 minutes. Senior guard Milaysia Fulwiley, who made her second career start at LSU, added 20 points and six assists. Mikaylah Williams had 19 points.
Sophomore center Grace Knox was one of three players with 14 points. She was joined by freshman Lola Lampley and Anna Minaeva with 14 apiece with Minaeva adding 10 rebounds.
LSU went on four different runs of 10 points or more in the first half to establish a 69-9 lead on Lampley’s two throws with 18.7 seconds left that capped an 18-0 run over the last six minutes of the second quarter.
LSU’s quickness and athleticism suffocated Southeastern into 27.8% shooting and 38 turnovers.
Johnson scored seven of her team’s points over a five-minute span of the first quarter for an 18-0 advantage. She scored twice on offensive putbacks.
Southeastern was held scoreless until the 4:29 mark of the opening quarter when Diana Szakolczi made the first of two free throws.
