Police arrest 33-year-old lady over N42m visa scam

A 33-year-old lady has been arrested by operatives of the Ondo State Police for allegedly defrauding over 90 individuals under the guise of securing visa.

The suspect, identified as Adejoke Ayomide, who resides in Adesoye Street, Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, was arrested following a petition submitted by a law firm, Akindayomi Oluwa Tobi & Associates, to the Ondo State Police Command.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Abayomi Jimoh, Ayomide, received the sum of N42,326,000 into her bank account under the pretence of facilitating travel visas to Europe.

Jimoh stated that after receiving the payments, the suspect became unreachable following attempts by her victims to contact her, after which the command tracked her and subsequently arrested her on Wednesday.

The PPRO said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect presented herself as a travel consultant capable of securing visas to Spain, Portugal, and France.

“Acting on these representations, the victims entrusted her with processing travel documents for more than ninety-three intending travelers. The suspect allegedly received a cumulative sum of ₦42,326,000.00 through her Opay account for the purported visa processing.

“The suspect is currently in police custody, where she has made useful confessional statements. Efforts are ongoing to unravel the full scope of the alleged fraudulent scheme, identify possible accomplices, and establish whether there are additional victims. Upon the conclusion of investigations, the suspect will be charged to court accordingly.”
