Patrick Peterson wants Tom Brady to keep his post-NFL career outside the professional wrestling ring.
The former Arizona Cardinals cornerback urged Brady to stay away from WWE as speculation grows that the seven-time Super Bowl champion could appear in a storyline involving Logan Paul.
Peterson acknowledged Brady’s toughness and competitive history but argued that neither makes the retired quarterback a professional wrestler.
Peterson Told Brady to ‘Just Let It Be’
TMZ Sports asked Peterson about Brady’s possible wrestling crossover while speaking with him at Billy “Swagga” Vance’s golf invitational. “Tom don’t wanna go to WWE,” Peterson said. “He’s a quarterback and I know Tom is a tough guy.”
Peterson, who spent 13 seasons in the NFL, said he had been around Brady multiple times and knew him to be a hard-nosed competitor shaped by his years at the University of Michigan. “Those Michigan men, they definitely wear their heart on their sleeve,” he continued. “But the WWE, Tom? Just let it be. Just let it be, man.”
Brady Publicly Asked WWE for a Storyline
Brady had already expressed interest in wrestling before his confrontation with Paul intensified the speculation. During a July 16 live recording of Cody Rhodes’ What Do You Wanna Talk About? at Fanatics Fest, Brady said he had been waiting for WWE president Nick Khan to develop a storyline for him.
“I feel like I’m retired from football, and I have an opportunity to go out there and still showcase that I’m a little bit of an athlete,” Brady said.
He pointed to former New England Patriots teammate Rob Gronkowski’s WWE appearances and Paul’s successful transition from internet personality and boxer to professional wrestler. “I think I can get in there for at least one match, right?” Brady said. “Come on, Nick. Come on, make it happen.”
His Logan Paul Feud Escalated at Fanatics Fest
Brady and Paul confronted each other onstage at Fanatics Fest in New York City. With NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns standing between them, Brady reached across and slapped Paul before the two were separated.
Paul claimed the confrontation began because he had been mocking Brady over their previous flag-football competition. He later criticized the retired quarterback on X and noted that he was still recovering from a torn triceps. Brady responded by calling Paul a “dork” and wrote that he would try again the next time he encountered him.
Their exchanges began months earlier after Paul suggested that his WWE career made him as athletic as NFL players. Brady dismissed that assertion as “cute,” and the pair continued antagonizing each other before and after competing in the March 2026 Fanatics Flag Football Classic.
TMZ Sports subsequently reported that Brady and WWE were engaged in discussions about a possible appearance.
Drew Brees and Mark Henry Want the Match
Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees encouraged WWE to arrange a confrontation between Brady and Paul. “They should,” Brees told TMZ Sports. “They should schedule that.”
WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry called the potential matchup “a match made in heaven,” arguing that Brady’s fame and Paul’s wrestling experience could create enormous mainstream interest. Alexa Bliss also supported a possible appearance, although she warned that Brady would quickly learn how much physical punishment professional wrestlers endure.
Brady retired from the NFL after the 2022 season and now works as Fox’s lead NFL analyst while maintaining several sports and business interests. Paul said in May that doctors had given him an estimated six-month recovery period after his triceps injury, although he has publicly pushed WWE’s medical team to clear him sooner.
