Osun Guber: I will end thuggery, restore peace if elected — ADC candidate, Salaam

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Osun State, Najeem Salaam, has expressed confidence ahead of Saturday’s election, saying voters will support him because of his commitment to ending political violence and restoring peace across the state.

Speaking during a Town Hall programme on Arise News, Salaam said many residents were weary of political thuggery and were looking for a leadership that could guarantee stability and security.

According to him, “Osun people do not want thuggery again because they see us and study us as the most peaceful party. They also know the only candidate that can bring peace is Najeem Salaam and the only party that can bring peace is the ADC.”

The former lawmaker alleged that political violence and the spread of weapons remain serious concerns in the state, warning that electing other candidates could further heighten tensions.

“Osun people know that if they give it to A or B, they will fight. I can tell you that Osun is filled with thuggery and ammunition. So, we will bring peace,” he said.

Salaam said his administration would focus on delivering good governance, promoting human development and implementing policies aimed at improving the welfare of residents.

“To build a better today and tomorrow for Osun. I go in to develop Osun in a better way, give people what belongs to them. I am more than fit than any other governor,” he stated.

Highlighting his leadership style, the ADC candidate described himself as a reserved politician who prioritises research and planning. He noted that the proposals contained in his 10-point agenda are practical and achievable.

“I am a very reserved person. I conduct research and all that constitute them in my ten-point agenda are doable,” Salaam said.

He also pointed to his grassroots political experience, noting that his journey in politics began at the local government level, where he spent years engaging directly with communities and understanding their challenges.

“I started my political career from the local government. I have been looking after people and I know their needs. If I have the opportunity, I will serve humanity,” he added.

Salaam maintained that his experience in public service, grassroots engagement and policy development has prepared him for the governorship, stressing that restoring peace would be one of the top priorities of his administration if elected.
