Napoli and Fenerbahce are approaching a complete agreement for Romelu Lukaku, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
Lukaku has already settled his contract terms with Fenerbahce. The two clubs are now working to resolve the remaining details before the Belgium international can travel and complete the transfer.
The advanced negotiations represent a major change in Lukaku’s position at Napoli. The transfer remains part of the latest transfer news until the clubs finalize their agreement and release official statements.
Lukaku said in May that he intended to remain in Naples for the final year of his contract. SoccerNews covered his decision to stay at Napoli, but Fenerbahce’s approach has created a clear route out of the club.
The 33-year-old has a Napoli contract running until June 2027. His agreement with Fenerbahce means the principal remaining issue is the arrangement between the clubs, with no transfer fee reported at this stage.
Lukaku’s second season in Naples was disrupted by injuries. A serious thigh problem kept him out for several months, and he made only five substitute appearances in Serie A during the 2025/26 campaign.
There were also difficulties away from the field. Napoli confirmed that Lukaku had failed to answer a request to return to training while he continued working on his fitness in Belgium.
His reduced role followed an excellent first season at the club. Lukaku scored 14 league goals and provided 10 assists as Napoli won the 2024/25 Serie A title.
He scored in the decisive 2-0 victory over Cagliari that secured the Scudetto and finished as the only Serie A player to reach double figures for both goals and assists that season.
Fenerbahce would be signing one of the most experienced center-forwards in European football. Lukaku has represented Chelsea, Manchester United, Inter, Roma and Napoli, while he remains Belgium’s record goalscorer.
His physical strength and ability to protect the ball would give Fenerbahce a clear reference point in attack. The principal question will be his fitness after a season in which he struggled to build any rhythm.
