Neymar’s World Cup hopes have been boosted after a positive result from his MRI scan.

Having been named in Brazil’s squad for the first time under Carlo Ancelotti for the World Cup, Neymar suffered another injury setback – a calf issue which sidelined him for two to three weeks.

Brazil’s all-time top-scorer, who was optimistic about his chances of being fit to play, underwent an MRI scan on Monday to check his progress from the injury.

And it appears he could be in line to make an appearance at a fourth World Cup, with his results showing he is on track in his return to fitness.

“The exam showed good progress in his treatment, within expected parameters,” the CBF said in a statement.

“He will continue the recovery and physical preparation process planned by the Brazilian National Team’s medical staff.”

Neymar has not played for Brazil since October 2023, when he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury against Uruguay.

He missed both of the Selecao’s pre-tournament friendlies – wins over Panama and Egypt – but still faces a race to be fit for Brazil’s opener against Morocco on June 13.
