Newcastle close in on Nico Gonzalez

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle are in advanced talks with Manchester City over a potential transfer of Nico Gonzalez. There is no final agreement between the clubs as of yet and the personal terms with the player haven’t been set either, but both those matters are now very close to a positive conclusion.

City’s midfield ranks have been hit by the departure of Bernardo Silva to Real Madrid as a free agent and the sale of Rodri to Barcelona, but they’ve brought in Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest and they’ve reportedly reached a €100 million agreement to sign Ayyoub Bouaddi from LOSC Lille.

Gonzalez mostly acted as an understudy to Rodri under Pep Guardiola, but it seems new City boss Enzo Maresca has no place for him in his plans. Meanwhile, with Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes out of the picture, Newcastle desperately need to sign midfield reinforcements before the window closes.
