Alabama limits tailgating ahead of Georgia football game

The University of Alabama is modifying tailgating, parking and pregame activities ahead of the Oct. 10 football game against Georgia because of forecasts calling for severe weather and high winds.

University officials said the game remains scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. as planned, but fans are being urged to monitor weather conditions and make informed decisions about travel and shelter.

To protect public safety and reduce the risk of property damage, tailgating will not be permitted on campus before noon Oct. 10. Only uncovered tailgating will be allowed after noon, weather permitting.

University officials said no tailgate drop-offs or setups will be allowed Oct. 9, and any tailgating supplies placed on campus before noon Oct. 10 will be removed and discarded. Corporate tailgating vendors, including Gameday Done Right, will not set up on the Quad because of the forecast for severe weather and high winds overnight Oct. 9.

Fans can access the Quad and other campus gathering areas after noon Oct. 10 once those areas have been inspected and deemed safe.

However, no tailgate supply drop-off will be available on the Quad, and electrical service will not be restored until university officials determine conditions are safe.

Parking lots and campus shuttle services also will not open until noon Oct. 10. Drivers attempting to enter campus parking areas before then will be turned away. Shuttle buses are expected to operate when parking lots open, although sustained winds could cause further delays.

Officials encouraged visitors using off-campus parking locations to check with lot operators for any schedule changes.

Several pregame activities have been canceled because of the weather forecast. All activities on and around the Quad have been called off, along with Champions Lane events.

The traditional Elephant Stomp featuring the Million Dollar Band on the Quad is not currently planned. However, the Walk of Champions is still expected to take place about 2½ hours before kickoff.
