UConn women’s basketball takes on Maryland Dec. 5, a contest that will be played at New York’s Barclays Center but will still have many of the hallmarks of a Huskies home game.
A partisan crowd in navy blue is expected at the Women’s Champions Classic in Brooklyn, typical of UConn neutral-site games played in New York, where bobbleheads of an all-time UConn great will be handed out to thousands of fans.
The New York Post reported Thursday that the first 6,000 fans to enter the Barclays Center will receive a Breanna Stewart bobblehead, a double-sided design that includes two statuettes of the star forward. On the right side, Breanna Stewart is wearing a UConn jersey and cradling a national championship trophy, a nod to her unmatched four-title run in Storrs, while on the left, she’s donning a New York Liberty jersey with a WNBA Finals trophy.

The Women’s Champions Classic is a doubleheader, with Michigan and Oklahoma tipping off in the opening matchup at 2 p.m. ET. UConn and Maryland will begin at 4:30, with the action airing on FOX and tickets starting at $60, according to third-party provider StubHub.
Breanna Stewart squeezed more success into a four-year college basketball career than any player in the sport’s history, winning four titles and four NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player awards from 2013 to 2016. After earning a starting role before UConn’s Big East Tournament final matchup against arch-rival Notre Dame as a freshman, Stewart quickly became the best player both on her star-studded Huskies squad and anywhere in the country, claiming National Player of the Year honors from the Associated Press, Naismith Trophy and USBWA in each of her final three seasons while averaging nearly 18 points and three blocks per game.
She’s worked to build a similarly accomplished résumé with the Liberty since joining the team in 2023. Stewart won the MVP award in her debut season with New York and led the Liberty to its first WNBA championship the following year, defeating the Minnesota Lynx, whose roster included former UConn teammate Napheesa Collier.
Stewart’s bobblehead provides a new perk as UConn returns to the Women’s Champions Classic for a second consecutive season. Last year, UConn faced off against Iowa at the Barclays Center, taking control in the first half and pulling away after the break to cruise to a 90-64 victory.
