Thomas Muller has told Bayern Munich to keep an eye on Freiburg’s rising star Johan Manzambi.

Manzambi has caught the eye for Switzerland at the World Cup, scoring a brace after coming off the bench against Bosnia-Herzegovina to help them to a 4-1 win.

At 20 years and 247 days, he became the youngest player in World Cup history to score at least two goals in a game as a substitute and the first player to do so for Switzerland.

For Freiburg last term, Manzambi scored seven goals in 47 appearances, and also registered six assists from 31 chances created.

The youngster also had more shots (95) than anyone else in the team, with 26 of those being on target, though his shot conversion rate sat at just 7.4%.

Muller was particularly impressed by what he saw from Manzambi in Switzerland’s second game, prompting him to send out a message to his former club.

“For me, he is someone, and now we can make a headline: that FC Bayern should also look at,” Muller said while working as a pundit for MagentaTV.

Manzambi came through the Freiburg academy, making his first-team debut in August 2024, and he has gone on to make 58 appearances overall.

He scored in their Europa League semi-final second leg to help them to a 3-1 win over Braga and into the showpiece match, which they lost to Aston Villa, being named as the Young Player of the Tournament.

When asked about Muller’s comments after the match, Manzambi said: “I’m still in Freiburg.

“I’m focused on the World Cup. I don’t know what I’ll be doing next season.”
