The World Series has come to an end and the focus is now shifting toward the offseason. When it comes to MLB free agency, Tarik Skubal is understandably going to receive the most attention. He’s arguably the best starting pitcher in baseball after all. One position player who has emerged as a star over the years but has also become quite underrated is outfielder Seiya Suzuki, who has spent his entire big league career with the Chicago Cubs. MLB insider Ken Rosenthal recently explained why the Toronto Blue Jays could be a fit for the outfielder in MLB free agency during an appearance on Foul Territory.

“Keep in mind that the Jays traded Daulton Varsho, a potential free agent, to the Astros at the deadline. They’re losing George Springer to free agency, presumably he’s not going to be back. And their outfield ranked 19th in OPS last season,” Rosenthal said. “They need more offense. Seiya Suzuki is coming off his best year. He is a quality player, he would fit right in there… They need help.”

There are often teams linked to players in free agency but talks either never occur or fail to become serious. Will the Blue Jays reach out to Suzuki and attempt to sign him this offseason?

“Suzuki would be a strong fit for them,” Rosenthal continued. “I would expect that the Jays are going to be at least in the mix for Seiya Suzuki.”

The 32-year-old has surprisingly never been an All-Star. He had a respectable rookie season in 2022 with the Cubs, but he’s been playing consistent baseball at a high level since 2023. He’s recorded an .804 OPS or better and 20 or more home runs in each of those seasons.

In 2026, Suzuki hit 26 long balls and 32 doubles while recording a .270 batting average and .841 OPS. Suzuki’s career-high in home runs for a single season is 32, which he accomplished in 2025.

The Blue Jays make sense as a landing destination for Suzuki in MLB free agency, but their pursuit of the outfielder will be met with plenty of competition from other ball clubs.
