Having produced several successful novels, Michael Connelly is rightfully recognized as one of the best crime writers of all time, so it’s no surprise his work transitioned to TV as well as the big screen. Blood Work and The Lincoln Lawyer both received movie adaptations, but it’s TV where Connelly’s stories have shone the brightest.
While Michael Connelly’s book series all connect to some degree, his TV shows are a little more complex. As of right now, there are two Bosch projects — the original series and Bosch: Legacy. In addition, The Lincoln Lawyer and Ballard made their way onto TV, giving fans of the author plenty of great on-screen stories to sink their teeth into.
All of these have been received exceptionally well and feel like faithful adaptations that really understand the source material, making it no surprise the Connelly universe isn’t slowing down. Over 10 years after beginning, Prime Video’s Bosch franchise doesn’t look like it’s ending anytime soon, with a new spinoff set to debut next year.
Additionally, with rumors about The Lincoln Lawyer spinoff focusing on Emi Finch continuing to gain traction, it’s clear Connelly’s Netflix universe may grow just as big. However, even if this project doesn’t wind up happening, the main show’s return is imminent, setting up a massive 2027 for the writer’s TV shows.
At Least 2 Michael Connelly Shows Release In 2027

For those desperately awaiting more Michael Connelly shows, they won’t be far away, as two are set to be released in 2027. With both Bosch and Bosch: Legacy over, the next entry in the franchise is a prequel titled Bosch: Start of Watch, with Cameron Monoghan set to play the titular character alongside Omari Hardwick as veteran officer Eli Bridges.
Seeing a young Harry Bosch will be a nice change of pace from the legendary detective we’re used to, and with the show set to drop on January 10, it won’t be a long wait. The series may feel a little bittersweet though, as Bosch: Start of Watch sets up Titus Welliver’s exit from the franchise, having played Harry for over a decade.
Still, it’s a fresh direction that will give fans of Bosch and Connelly something to look forward to, and it’s not the author’s only TV show next year. The Lincoln Lawyer will also return for its fifth season in 2027, as confirmed by Connelly himself. Having already produced four successful outings, there is far less jeopardy with this project, which looks a surefire hit.
It’s also set to be the last season of the series, once again sparking mixed emotions. Another quick turnaround for The Lincoln Lawyer is great news, and with it officially being the last outing, it should make the stakes even higher. However, losing such a quality show will hurt, and even equally impressive spinoffs may not feel like a true replacement.
That said, 2027 is still an exciting year for Michael Connelly fans, with new chapters beginning and old ones ending, plus there is plenty of variety since Bosch: Start of Watch and The Lincoln Lawyer season 5 will be very different. Hopefully, they both reach their full potential and mark another great year for these respective franchises.
2027 Would Be The Perfect Year For A Connelly Crossover, But It’s Not Possible

Although we have been lucky enough to see Harry Bosch on screen with Renée Ballard, we unfortunately won’t get a full crossover between all of Michael Connelly’s shows, despite 2027 being the perfect year for it. With Titus Welliver not permanently tied to any current Bosch projects, his character is free to use elsewhere.
Likewise, The Lincoln Lawyer coming to an end means the same for Manuel Garcia-Ruflo’s Mickey Haller, and it wouldn’t be a huge stretch to get Maggie Q’s Renée Ballard involved as well. How these three come together is for the writers to work out, but for those invested in Connelly’s TV adaptations, it would be a dream come true.
Sadly, the rights issues between Netflix and Amazon mean this will stay a dream barring some miracle. The Lincoln Lawyer is with Netflix while Bosch and Ballard are with Amazon, meaning there’s simply no likely scenario where these personalities end up in the same project, which even the creator of the characters himself confessed to.
Michael Connelly commented on a Lincoln Lawyer and Bosch crossover, saying it’s never going to happen, acknowledging how difficult it would be for the two studios to agree on some sort of collaboration. As a result, what could’ve been a truly fascinating TV project remains a wish that will probably never be granted.
The time seems perfect for Bosch and The Lincoln Lawyer to merge in some way before their franchises move on, but even if we never get this ambitious crossover, it seems the respective universes will continue through spinoffs and prequels, which is more than an adequate alternative.
