Man United announce record-breaking sponsorship deal with betting firm

Manchester United have announced a new multi-year training kit sponsorship agreement with Betway, which the club claims is the largest of its kind in global football.

While the specific financial terms of the deal have not been officially disclosed, reports suggest that Super Group, the parent company of the Betway brand, will contribute an estimated £20 million per season.

This substantial investment will see the Betway logo prominently displayed on the training kits for both United’s men’s and women’s teams, as well as around Old Trafford and the Progress with Unity Stadium on matchdays.

The agreement follows a period last season where United operated without a training kit partner, after their previous arrangement with blockchain platform Tezos concluded.

The club’s recent return to the Champions League is understood to have significantly bolstered its negotiating position, enabling it to secure more lucrative terms than might otherwise have been possible.

This new sponsorship also aligns with upcoming Premier League regulations, which will prohibit gambling companies from featuring on the front of matchday shirts from next season.

Commenting on the partnership, Marc Armstrong, Manchester United‘s chief business officer, stated: “We are delighted to welcome Betway as official principal partner.

“The scale of our exciting new partnership reflects our growth strategy, the enduring global strength and appeal of Manchester United, and our ability to attract leading brands that want to engage with our vast worldwide fanbase.”

United finished third in the Premier League last season and have since handed Michael Carrick the permanent manager’s job.

They have also been busy in the transfer market after signing midfield pair Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans from Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively.

The Red Devils are expected to try and make further acquisitions in the final weeks of the transfer window as they bid to bolster their squad for a much busier campaign after only playing 40 matches across all competitions last term.

United will next be in action on Saturday when they take on European champions in a pre-season friendly. Carrick’s side are due to begin their Premier League campaign away at newly promoted Hull City on 22 August.
