Andoni Iraola will want his team to get straight back on it after the international break.
At the moment, Liverpool are unbeaten across all competitions and are only six points adrift of league leaders, Manchester City.
And, as luck would have it, their first game after the break is actually against the Cityzens so that total could end up being halved by the end of their first weekend back.
However, as it’s still so early in the campaign, the tides can obviously turn and Liverpool could end up falling down the Premier League table.
If this happens, they’ll need a plan for when January comes around and, now that Julian Ward has been appointed as Liverpool’s sporting director, he can get his scouting departments into action and start weighing up some moves.
However, the latest news from Anfield is certainly something that fans will want to hear about.
Julian Ward wants to spend a lot of money on improving Liverpool’s first-team squad in January
As mentioned, one of the best ways for team’s to improve is by entering the transfer market.
Most of Liverpool’s rivals seem to do this every season but, it’s only recently when the Reds have actually splashed the cash.
Over the last two summer transfer windows, Richard Hughes spent way over £600 million on new players and the Reds’ squad still isn’t finished.
Even though we’re only five games into the season, you can tell that there are still some major problem areas among their ranks.
But as mentioned, now that Ward has been appointed, he’s the man in charge of transfers and, as per the latest update from TEAMtalk, it seems like the January window could be rather exciting.
“The club, now under the regime of new sporting director Julian Ward, are keen to make a big splash in January in a show of faith to their new man,” they wrote.
“The Reds, performing well so far under new boss Andoni Iraola, do have several holes in their squad that need addressing across upcoming transfer windows; not least in both full-back positions and in central midfield.
“However, another big demand lies on the right side of the attack, and the failure to replace Mohamed Salah with a like-for-like replacement over the summer leaves Iraola with a problem to fix.
Liverpool need to spend a lot of money if they want to improve their squad
Obviously, there are a few problem areas among Liverpool’s ranks.
And, if they’re wanting to get back to their best and start adding some silverware to their trophy cabinet, they’re going to need to bolster those positions.
That’s easier said than done, of course, but, with the number of players thar they’ve been linked with, there are plenty of options for them to explore.
Someone such as Michael Olise would be perfect but, since Bayern Munich would probably want over £200 million for him, the Frenchman is probably a tad out of reach.
But, Kevin Schade, Adam Wharton or even L to sign.
At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what Liverpool will do but, if Ward is wanting to spend a lot of money in January then the winter window is certainly going to excite the Reds’ fanbase.
