On Saturday, the Chicago Bears announced that starting left tackle Braxton Jones was placed on the Reserve/Injured list.
Jones hurt his knee in the Bears’ Monday night win over the Philadelphia Eagles, and he did not participate in practice all week. Teams can designate up to eight players to return from injured reserve, so if he’s able, the Bears could bring Jones back after missing 4 games.
Head coach Ben Johnson already announced that Theo Benedet would get the start at left tackle, and that Ozzy Trapilo, who ended last year as their starting left tackle, isn’t quite game-ready yet as he works back from his knee injury. Trapilo has been a full participant at practice the last couple of weeks, so he’s close.
Jones’ 2.4% pressure rate was eighth-best among all offensive tackles through 4 weeks, just ahead of teammate Darnell Wright’s tenth-place 2.6%.
The Bears have also elevated two practice squad players for tomorrow’s game against the New York Jets: defensive lineman Marcus Davenport and cornerback Nick McCloud. After the game, they’ll revert to the practice squad.
