Jadarian Price injury update: Seahawks lose rookie to IR stint

The Seattle Seahawks aren’t exactly starting off their 2026 NFL season the way they would’ve liked. Mike Macdonald’s squad just got Sam Darnold back from an injury, but now the NFC West team faces another significant setback.

The defending Super Bowl champions could be in trouble after losing their rookie running back for at least the next four weeks. Seattle confirmed Price is heading for Injured Reserve due to a chest injury ahead of the team’s Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Seahawks rookie has split carries this season as the team eases Price up to NFL speed. Seattle’s backfield features several veteran options, including Zach Charbonnet, Emanuel Wilson and George Holani.

Price was drafted towards the end of the first round during the 2026 NFL Draft. The former Notre Dame RB split carries in college with Arizona Cardinals rookie Jeremiyah Love.

Seattle’s backfield is unclear

The early draft capital that Seattle spent on Price suggest the team views him a future workhorse back. His production over the first three games has certainly been inconsistent, though.

In 2026, Price has carried the ball 28 times for 119 yards. Meanwhile, he’s had some fumbling issues after losing the ball twice during the first month of the season.

Price’s injury means that he’ll be out for at least four games, including Sunday’s meeting with the Chargers. Seattle has a brutal stretch of games upcoming with the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs all on the docket.

Last season, the Seahawks had a clear split in carries with Kenneth Walker and Charbonnet. However, Walker’s free agency move to the Kansas City Chiefs has left Macdonald and Seattle with a lot of names and no clear favorite to become Seattle’s top RB.

Charbonnet is finally practicing again after the team lost him to an ACL injury against the 49ers during the NFC Divisional Round last season. The former Michigan Wolverines star rushed for 12 touchdowns in 2025 despite splitting carries with Walker.
