Liverpool and Arsenal have been approached by intermediaries about a possible move for Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey. The Real Madrid defender remains focused on staying in Spain, with a January departure currently outside his plans.
The September 26 report says Chelsea and Manchester City have also been sounded out. There is potential interest from England, although neither Alexander-Arnold nor Madrid is pushing to arrange a winter transfer.
Competition at right-back provides the backdrop to the speculation. Madrid signed Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan in July, committing to the Netherlands international until 2030. His arrival gives Alexander-Arnold another established player to compete with for a place in the side.
For the former Liverpool defender, the coming months offer a chance to demonstrate how his passing can influence Madrid’s attack. A crowded position naturally encourages outside interest, but it also leaves time for his role to develop before the next window.
Madrid holds a strong contractual position. Alexander-Arnold signed through June 2031 when he joined in June 2025, so a permanent return to the Premier League would require an agreement with a club that has several years remaining on his deal.
His record in England explains the appeal. Liverpool’s own career review credits him with 86 assists and 23 goals in 354 appearances, including a central role in two league title-winning teams.
That attacking output would give any interested club a clear reason to assess him. It would also bring a tactical decision over how much freedom to give a fullback whose best work often involves creating chances from deeper positions.
A return to Anfield would carry an obvious personal connection, while Arsenal would be evaluating his place in a different setup.
