Kyle Shanahan takes blame for car accident

For the last few days, the NFL has been buzzing about the car accident involving San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Shanahan opened up about the details of the incident on Tuesday, and clarified to reporters that he caused the accident.

Shanahan corrected the California Highway Patrol report, which initially placed blame for the incident on another driver.

Via David Lombardi:

“I was driving. I was going 20 mph. I was not on my phone but I dropped my phone and it was stuck in my seat. I took my eyes off the road looking for my phone and my car veered into someone. It’s one of those roads where there’s no forgiveness.”

Shanahan’s friend, Chris Simms, talked about howShanahan was recovering from the accident and how he is still suffering from a concussion as well.

“I don’t think he’d have any problem with me sharing this — it hit him hard,” Simms said. “He was emotional about it because he realized how close it was to being just a complete, you know, utter disaster.

“Like, really, it was a disaster anyways. But you know, when you’re that part of that accident, like I said, he could have lost his right eye. It could have been a lot worse,” he added.
