“In a similar vein, he noted that the Kwara State Government would also donate the sum of N50m to Muhammed Kamaldeen University (MKU), Ilorin, as a form of support to strengthen research and educational advancement in the institution,” he said.
The additional N50 million contribution made on behalf of the AbdulRazaq family and the donation to Ansarul Islam Society bring the direct contributions to the two organisations to N150 million.
The remaining N30 million has been earmarked for scholarships for selected students of the university.
30 Students to Receive N1m Scholarships
The governor also directed Muhammed Kamaldeen University to compile the names of 30 deserving students who would each receive N1 million to support their academic pursuits.
Abdullateef said the scholarship grants were intended to inspire students and ease some of the financial challenges associated with pursuing higher education.
“On top of it, AbdulRazaq directed the university to compile names of 30 deserving students for scholarships, with each getting a N1m grant each to inspire and support their academic journey,” he said.
The scholarship component represents one-sixth of the total N180 million announced at the centenary celebration.
The university is expected to identify eligible beneficiaries in line with the governor’s directive. The announcement did not specify the selection criteria or when the grants would be disbursed.
Governor Celebrates Institution’s 100-Year Legacy
In his congratulatory message to the Adabiyyah community worldwide, AbdulRazaq described the centenary as a significant milestone in the institution’s history.
He congratulated its founders, successive administrators, teachers, students, alumni, supporters and other members of the community who had contributed to sustaining the institution over the past century.
“One hundred years is a remarkable milestone in the life of any institution. For Az-Zumratul Adabiyyah, it has been a century of commitment, sacrifice, scholarship, discipline, and service to humanity,” the governor said.
He commended those whose dedication had sustained the institution’s mission across different generations and periods of change.
The governor also urged the management and alumni network to use the anniversary as an opportunity to develop a clear plan for the institution’s next phase of growth.
Soludo Identifies Priorities for Educational Development
AbdulRazaq identified curriculum development, teacher training, digital learning, improved libraries, research and partnerships with reputable educational institutions as important areas for future investment.
He encouraged the institution’s management and alumni to prioritise these areas as part of efforts to strengthen its academic capacity and improve educational outcomes.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to advance learning, research and scholarship across Kwara State.
“Our administration remains committed to working with relevant stakeholders and institutions within the framework of our educational policies and available resources to advance learning, research, and scholarship in the state,” he said.
The announcement of the donations was reportedly welcomed with applause and cheers from traditional rulers, clerics, dignitaries and students who attended the centenary celebration.
The N180 million commitment places scholarships, institutional support and research funding at the centre of the anniversary activities, as Az-Zumratul Adabiyyah begins its next century of educational service.
